"Big Brother" contestants fear one thing almost more than getting kicked out of the house and that one thing is being on "Big Brother" Slop for the week. It’s tasteless, it’s not great to look at and the consistency is similar to cement. Who wants that?
However, "Big Brother" slop might be one of the healthier things you can in the house. It’s packed full of vitamins and proteins. People often act like they are wasting away but that is usually because they simply refuse to eat the slop. If you have 4 meals of slop a day while you’re in the "Big Brother" house, you actually could do pretty good in the competitions because it’s similar to what a weight lifter would eat – as a supplement anyway.
What are the ingredients of slop on 'Big Brother'?
There are 4 main ingredients (plus water if you want to include that):
- 5 cups of steel cut oats
- 1 cup unflavored whey protein isolate
- ½ cup unflavored soy protein
- 4 tbsp. vitamin and mineral powder
Making it is pretty easy, too. You just bring 12 cups of water to a boil and add the steel cut oats. Reduce to a simmer for 25-30 minutes. Then, one by one, add the remaining ingredients and stirring them in completely. In its thickest form, "Big Brother" slop looks like oatmeal. It tastes like slop.
"Big Brother" players have complained about it throughout the history of the show. If you eat it as is, the goal is to simply get it down. In past seasons, players have been given things to eat along with the slop.
These additional items aren’t always to the players liking but they are better than nothing. If players are creative they can use them to make the slop a little more edible.
What can you make with slop?
What if they don’t have any additional food items that they can eat though? BB19 players would be wise to learn this quickly!
Slop can be prettied up with condiments and a few additional ingredients. According to "Big Brother Online", players on slop can use, “balsamic vinegar, olive oil, vegetable oil, hot sauce, ketchup, BBQ sauce, mayonnaise, mustard, pickles, relish, salsa, soy sauce, steak sauce, Worcestershire sauce, honey, black pepper, garlic salt, crushed red pepper, salt, vanilla, basil, bay leaves, cinnamon, leaf oregano, paprika, parsley, rosemary, brown sugar, artificial sweetener, powdered creamer, white sugar, tea and protein powder.” What are they going to do with that though?
In past seasons players on "Big Brother" have gotten pretty creative. Any cook who can’t make the slop taste decent should be ashamed of themselves. Here are a few things that can make the slop edible and prevent players from suffering the side effects of being on slop:
- Bunless slop burgers: cut up pickles and relish and mix with slop; add a small amount of powdered creamer for thickening; fry like a burger; top with ketchup and mustard or BBQ sauce
- Sweet and sour slop balls; add a little extra protein powder until they can be formed into balls; in a separate bowl, combine balsamic vinegar, brown sugar, ketchup, soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce. Cook slop balls in a pan with a bit of oil until they are brown on the outside then add mixed ingredients. Cook on low until sauce is reduced to desired thickness.
- Breakfast slop: heat up slop; add brown sugar and cinnamon; combine powdered creamer with water to make a milk-like substance; top your sweet slop with creamer liquid and you’ve got a semi-tasty porridge
- Slopcakes – add cinnamon and powdered creamer to slop mix; cook in frying pan with a touch of oil; in a separate pan, add water to brown sugar, a touch of oil, vanilla, and cinnamon. Cook on low heat and reduce; top slopcakes with brown sugar mixture.
What do you think?
Would you eat any of these slop recipes if you didn’t have a choice? If you ever get in the "Big Brother" house you might want to practice making and eating things like this because it is almost a sure thing that you’d be on slop at least once. Knowing how to prepare slop so that it is tolerable could save your game! Maybe the BB19 players will come up with some unique new ways to eat slop this year.
