He has been generous in offering an insight into his personal side, and now #Prince Harry has admitted that he was on the verge of quitting the Royal Family in favor of an ordinary life, had it not been for his loyalty to his grandmother, #Queen Elizabeth II.
In new astonishing comments unearthed over the weekend, the fifth in line to the British throne said he struggled to find himself a meaningful role to play after his decade-long service in the British Army came to and end.
The prince said, “I felt I wanted out but then decided to stay in and work out a role for myself.
‘’I spent many years kicking my heels and I didn’t want to grow up.’’
The 32-year-old, however, stressed that he and his brother, #Prince William, did not want to be ‘’just a bunch of celebrities,’’ adding that everything they were doing was not for themselves but for ‘’the greater good of the people.’’
Harry is expected to take on more duties in the future, particularly with the retirement of his grandfather #Prince Philip from public life.
The candid admissions are likely to add to controversy that surrounded earlier comments, in which Harry said that ''no one in the royal family wants to be a king or queen.''
Harry also insisted that that he wanted to be directly involved in modernizing the monarchy and introducing any changes that might be needed for the institution to keep up with the 21 century's demands.
"We want to make sure the monarchy lasts and is passionate about what it stands for,'' he said, adding that things can not go on as they were under the Queen.
Harry has managed to rediscover himself through working for a range of charitable causes, supporting injured army veterans and raising awareness on mental health issues.
He said that taking on such roles was inspired by his late mother Princess Diana.
The young prince is a popular figure among monarchists in the #United Kingdom. His openness about his struggle to cope following the death of his mother received a nation-wide applause in Britain. He was encouraging people to come forward and discuss their mental issues.
His relationship with actress #Megan Markle, which was endorsed by the Queen, only added to close media scrutiny. The latest speculations suggested that Markle's engagement ring would feature a bracelet once worn by #Princess Diana.
The prince, however, has remained tight-lipped about the subject, refusing to comment on photos showing him in social and private gatherings with the American celebrity.
