Royal couple Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had a “discreet” tea party with Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace, Daily Mail Online reported. This is one of the actress’ formal meetings with the Queen who happens to be her fiance’s grandmother.

The two arrived in a Ford Galaxy vehicle with tinted windows to keep the meeting very discreet. The vehicle was a station wagon, a type which has a longer body that most of the cars.

The tea party was held at the private sitting room of Queen Elizabeth and took around an hour, the columnist from Daily Mail reported.

Prince Harry’s grandmother usually drinks her own blend of Assam tea or Darjeeling tea along with some sandwiches, cakes or fruits.

This is touted as her favorite part of the day. To have this with the woman that her grandson fancies will provide a venue for her to get to know Markle.

Significance of the meeting

This was not the first time that the “Suits” actress had a formal meeting with Queen Elizabeth. She and Prince Harry have had an earlier meeting with her when they visited Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

Before the engagement, Harry has to seek approval from the British monarch as he is considered to be fifth in line to the throne. This same move was also done previously by his older brother Prince William when he decided to propose to Kate Middleton.

After the tea party, Harry was whisked away to an event hosted by Attitude magazine in honor of the activism of his mother Princess Diana for HIV and AIDS awareness. During the event, the prince accepted a posthumous award.

The “Suits” actress first met the prince in London through their closest friends back in 2016.

Since then, they have started dating and traveling around the world. They were also spotted together in attendance during the weddings of in-laws such as Pippa Middleton.

Markle will become a historic figure in Great Britain when she marries her fiance. She will be regarded as a British princess with American roots. The actress is based in Toronto, Canada while Harry is based in London.

During her 36th birthday, the prince treated her to a vacation in the African content.

The two made their first official public appearance as a couple during the Invictus Games in Toronto. They were seen holding hands during the sporting event. This sporting event is personally organized by Prince Harry. It was also during that time when he met with Melania Trump, the wife of United States president Donald Trump.
