France has proven itself time and time again as a country that takes action. They continually strive to fight climate change by integrating clean energy, meeting with international leaders, and pursuing ambitious goals.

Paris Agreement

The United States of America may be leaving the Paris Agreement, but France is facing climate change with unwavering determination. The Paris agreement was appropriately signed on Earth Day, April 22, 2016 by 195 countries.

The primary goal of this agreement is to reduce global temperatures and increase spending in areas that will help lower greenhouse gas emissions.

Climate change is a growing issue in today's world. Countries that have signed must invest $100 billion in climate financing by 2020 and $100 billion annually until 2025. Aside from being the first universal agreement of this kind, it is legally binding and requires all developed countries to provide developing countries with financial support so that they may also implement the agreement.

France speaks out

The United States of America emits 17.8% of global greenhouse gasses, which makes it the second largest contributor in the world after China.

In light of American President Donald Trump's decision to leave the Paris Agreement, French President Emmanuel Macron made a public address to the country- in English. He stated that while he would respect America's decision to leave, he believed it to be the wrong choice not only for the United States but for the world as well.

“I want to say that they will find in France a second homeland. I call on them: ’Come, work and here with us, to work together on concrete solutions for our climate," stated President Emmanuel Macron in an address to America’s scientists, engineers, and citizens.

In the wake of America's departure, countries all over the world have been more unified in their determination to "make the planet great again." France and India have become especially close and they have emphatically stated their dedication to going above and beyond the Paris Agreement's requirements.

Driving away climate change

In addition to maintaining and improving international ties with the other countries that are a part of the Paris Agreement, France has been busy taking action. While America is backing away from this pressing issue, France is looking forward: they plan to rid the country of fossil-fueled cars by 2040, a decision that could drastically reduce their emissions.

This ambitious goal is backed by car-manufacturing brand Volvo. By 2019, they expect every Volvo car to have an electric motor. If they are successful in this implementation, they would be the first traditional car company to have solely electric and hybrid vehicles- an impressive feat. France is leading the world in their endeavors to make this world a better place. In this instance, actions truly do speak louder than words.
