About Airbnb

Founded in 2006 and based in San Francisco, California, Airbnb is an online marketplace and hospitality service that allow people to rent or lease their properties as long-term-lodging, hostel beds, vacation rentals, apartment rentals or even as hotel rooms. The company doesn’t own any lodging buildings or apartments. Instead, it acts as a broker, which it receives service fee's and/or commissions from both guests and apartment’s owners.

The company makes all the booking, while the hosts or owner set the cost of lodging. Currently, it has over 3 million lodging listings in over 65,000 cities and 191 countries.

As for the applications and bookings, Airbnb service can be accessed through their official website or mobile application, which currently available on both Apple iOS and Android platforms. Signing up is easy and free of charge.

As for the revenue-sharing things, both Airbnb and hosts made a good business here. For each booking made, the company charges guest a six percent to 12 percent service fee, while for the host it charges a three percent to five percent host service fee. Additionally, apartment’s host can also make some offer and experience, which include things like adventure things and more. But those offers come with an additional charge, in which the company takes a percentage or commission.

In addition, Airbnb also made some acquisition. Earlier this year, it acquired the Canadian-based villa rental firm called Luxury Retreats International.
