In 2016, Xiaomi forayed into the laptop segment with the launch of its Mi Notebook Air. The device fell in direct competition with Apple’s MacBook line-up. Needless to say, its design and specifications were the worthy contest. The company is back with its successor now. According to a report by The Verge, Xiaomi has officially taken the wraps off its next-generation Mi Notebook Pro laptop. The latest line-up will only be available in China initially, followed by an international roll out soon.

Xiaomi's latest launch event

Xiaomi CEO, Lei Jun kick-started its 11 September keynote.

He was reported by The First Post as saying that the company is working towards providing affordable products with “high values” to its consumers. Following this statement, the firm took the wraps off “Mi Notebook Pro.” One of the major selling points of the laptop is the fact that it is among the first to feature Intel’s latest eighth generation i7 processor. The company claims that it delivers forty per cent more power and efficiency in comparison to its predecessor.

Here are the specs and features

In terms of display, the Mi Notebook Pro packs a wide 15-inch screen with clean sides. Its minimal design makes it stand apart amongst others. Xiaomi has only introduced one color variant Dark Gray with Mi Notebook Pro.

What’s strange is that the laptop holds a lot of resemblance to Apple’s MacBook Pro in terms of design. In fact, Xiaomi doesn’t back away from admitting this. Lei Jun in his keynote did not miss mentioning that he knows that the laptop looks similar to MacBook Pro. “Many of the engineers in my company love MacBook Pro, that’s why we looked at it when we were designing our innovation,” he said.

Its display is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3. There are hardly any bezels surrounding the screen.

According to a report by Tech Radar, the laptop is complemented by dual channel RAM of 16GB along with 1TB SSD. There’s NVIDIA’s GeForce MX150 card for graphics. To keep the system cool, Xiaomi has also integrated a cooling system with dual fans and a larger heat pipe.

It allows for all the pressure to flow out rapidly. Multitasking is, therefore, possible with Xiaomi’s Mi Notebook Pro. Connectivity-wise, there’s all the basic facilities including an SD card slot, a headphone jack, two USB Type-C ports and an HDMI port. The starting price of Mi Notebook Pro is roughly $1000. It’s international shipping date has not been mentioned by the company as yet.
