Finnish startup HMD Global acquired the Nokia brand from Microsoft in 2016. Since then, the company has been trying to re-establish the nokia name in the mobile phone market. One of the first things that HMD decided to do after acquiring the brand was to ensure that all the smartphones that it produced and sold were based on Google's Android platform. The company released several lower mid-range and upper mid-range handsets, with Nokia 8 being the first Android-powered smartphone that carries the Nokia brand name.
In August, some leaked pictures from the FCC revealed an entry-level smartphone dubbed the Nokia 2, which HMD Global allegedly has in the pipeline. Now, an FCC document sheds light on the purported battery of this device.
What does the FCC data reveal?
According to the latest FCC data, the Nokia 2 will feature a large 4,000 mAh battery. This means that the impending handset will likely be targeted to those consumers who require a good battery backup. Most premium handsets in the market today have top-end specs to attract customers. However, the battery capacity may not impress many users. By comparison, both the Galaxy Note 8 and LG V30 sport 3,300 mAh batteries.
This is why the 4,000 mAh in the Nokia 2 battery would be a welcome sight for many consumers.
A leak from FCC's database in August also revealed alleged pictures of the Nokia 2. At that time, the handset's purported model number, TA-1029, was also revealed. Apart from this, the FCC database also indicated that the smartphone may launch with Bluetooth 4.1.
Expected specs of the Nokia 2
The battery capacity along with the fact that it will be an entry-level handset, suggests that the Nokia 2 may sport a 5-inch HD display (1,280 x 720 pixels). It will likely be powered by the Snapdragon 212 or a similar chipset. The phone may include 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage. Like all the other Nokia-branded handsets released this year, the Nokia 2 is also expected to run on near stock Android 7.0 Nougat operating system straight out of the box.
The phone is also said to come with 8 MP rear-facing camera and a 5 MP selfie camera.
Thanks to the expected 4,000 mAh battery, with moderate usage, the handset may be able to last at least two days on a single charge. Although HMD Global has not revealed any details of the upcoming device, market observers suggest that the mobile device may come at a pocket-friendly price tag of less than $160.
