Huawei posted a teaser image of its 2017 flagship offering – Mate 10, sometime last month. This riled up a lot of anticipation among its fans, who were still waiting for an official confirmation from the firm up till now. The company yesterday took to their Twitter account to announce that they will be unveiling the Mate 10 on October 16 in Munich, Germany. Notably, Huawei is introducing Mate 10 in the US market as iPhone 8's competitor.

The phone's release date in the US is not Confirmed.

Everything you need to know

According to a report by GSMArena, the company posted an image that read, “Stay tuned for the Huawei Mate 10 series powered by Kirin 970.” Needless to say, they have also confirmed that the latest flagship processor, powered by 10nm 64-bit octa-core unit is going to debut with the device. The report also claims that the chipset features an exclusive Neural Processing Unit (NPU) – a feature exclusive to itself. With the integration of Kirin 970, Mate 10 will be able to output performance that is worth 12-cores of GPU.

According to a report by Android Headlines, the firm also pretty much confirmed that the handset will sport a dual rear camera setup. The module will be powered by Leica technology. No details on the front camera specs as yet.

A flagship device with top-end specs

On the basis of the previous rumors, the smartphone is expected to feature a metal casing. This will complement the device’s glass front and back panels. In terms of storage, Mate 10 is speculated to offer 6GB of RAM. The firm will also apparently be offering an 8GB model up for sale. The smartphone will probably run on Android Nougat OS topped with company’s own Emotion UI skin. Given that Google only recently made its 2017 mobile OS (Android Oreo) official, the chances of it appearing on Mate 10 (out-of-the-box) are slim.

To compensate for the loss, the firm is expected to release its update in the form of an over-the-air process as soon as possible. Display-wise, the handset might sport a 6-inch panel.

Whether the company settles for the OLED or LCD display technology, is something that only time will tell. There is no word on the battery life as of yet, but it will probably be beefy. The market is especially looking forward to Mate 10’s launch because the company CEO earlier last month, threw an open challenge to Apple. He stated that their flagship offering will even take on Apple’s iPhone 8 (to be announced on September 11) easily. Given the number of modern-day features, the smartphone won’t be any less expensive than $800.
