With the release of samsung galaxy Note 8, tech enthusiasts are eagerly waiting for the launch of several new smartphones over the next three months. The upcoming handsets will ship with new technologies such as a bezel-less display, OLED panel, improved processor and new operating platforms such as Android 8.0 Oreo and iOS 11. In this article, I will take a look at some of the few popular upcoming smartphones expected to release in 2017.

iPhone 8

Apple is scheduled to launch iPhone 8 before September 15. The new iPhone will be equipped with an Oled Display panel in addition to standard LED variants.

The addition of an OLED display will be a trendsetter in the mobile arena because of its ability to produce rich saturated colors and enhanced contrast. The Cupertino-based tech giant will also have an edge-to-edge bezel-less display identical to that of the Galaxy S8 series.

According to Tomsguide, the iPhone 8 will integrate face recognition technology instead of Touch ID including Augmented reality capabilities. According to Gadgetstouse, the iPhone 8 will not ship with a physical home button but will have FaceID. In addition to the iPhone 8, Apple will also release iPhone 7s and 7s Plus with 5-inch and 5.5-inch display respectively. The phone will be equipped with Apple A11 processor, 3GB RAM, 64GB default storage and will be pre-loaded with iOS 11.

LG V30

Touted as a successor to the LG V20, the LG V30 is expected to release at the IFA trade show on August 31 in Berlin. Specifications wise, the LG V30 handset will feature a 6-inch P-OLED (2880 x 1440) curved edge FullVision display, Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB RAM, 64GB internal storage and will be powered by a 3200mAh battery.

Even though Android O has been released, LG will ship the new phone with Android Nougat followed by an update to Oreo before the end of 2017. The phone will provide support for wireless charging, ESS Quad DAC audio to eliminate background noise including dual rear cameras with a f/1.6 aperture. The phone is expected to cost $750.

Pixel 2

Google is gearing up to launch the Pixel 2 series in the first week of October 2017. While the larger version of the Pixel 2 aka Taimen will flaunt a 6-inch OLED display, the smaller model with a 5-inch display will be code named the Walleye. The upcoming Pixel series will be equipped with a Snapdragon 825/826 processor, 4GB RAM coupled with a 64GB/128GB storage capacity. The design will be similar to that of the previous counterpart with a combination of metal and two-tone glass without a headphone port. The advantage of the upcoming Google Pixel series is the integration of Android 8.0 Oreo by default. Recently, the Pixel 2 with Android 8.0.1 was spotted on the US FCC.

Some of the other devices scheduled to launch before the end of 2017 are Samsung Galaxy S8 Active, Moto X4, LG Q6, and Huawei Honor 9.

Going forward, we can expect the release of premium smartphones with trending features and specifications. When manufacturers release new versions of the handsets, the prices of the existing devices such as iPhone 7 will be substantially reduced. It is advisable to wait for few more months before making a purchase decision.
