A new Study published in Frontiers in Human Neuroscience journal, now claims that grooving to favorite tracks might Reverse the Signs Of Aging. This is especially true in the case of elderly people, the research suggests.

Dance can make person younger

According to Deccan Chronical, Kathrin Rehfeld of German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases states that elderly individuals who regularly take part in physical activities, especially dancing are found to look and feel way younger than those who don’t.

Old age is often riddled with issues relating to one’s physical and mental health.

A serious condition like Alzheimer’s disease is common in elderly men and women. However, this can actually go into reverse if individuals routinely partake in physical exercises. Rehfeld states that exercise has a positive impact on the mental and physical condition of people.

The study led by Rehfeld consisted of the involvement of two types of physical exercises. One included dancing, while the other consisted of several endurance training activities. It was discovered towards the end that both activities increased the area of the brain, which typically declines as one ages.

Dance can change behavior too

Interestingly, dancing led to several visible changes in behavior as well, especially in terms of balance.

The study recruited volunteers roughly around the age of 68. One group was assigned an 18-month course which involved learning several dance routines including Jazz, Square, Latin-American and Line Dance, while the other was asked to indulge in endurance-training activities. The hippocampus region of the brain (which declines with age) was found to increase in both the groups.

But the group that learned dancing was found to be more jolly.

Healthy diet is also important to stay young

It is also crucial that one adopts a healthy diet, apart from learning how to dance. As reported by NDTV, regular consumption of fruit like kiwi and grapes prevents the formation of wrinkles on the skin and helps to counter inflammation.

Spices like basil, turmeric, cumin, and fennel are also effective anti-aging ingredients. Eating oatmeal for breakfast will help increase the fiber content in one’s body, which will automatically serve the purpose of antioxidants. Oatmeal is also known to rid the body of bad cholesterol. The research will help to tackle other health problems too.
