Motorola is slated to release a number of smartphones this year. Among them is the newest addition to the Moto X line, the Moto X4. The lineup has not seen a new phone since 2015 and recent reports from Android Authority suggests that wait may finally be over. The news source shared exclusive high-resolution images of the unannounced handset as well as a list of features and specifications.

All the details

According to Android Authority, an anonymous source provided all the details around Motorola's upcoming mid-range flagship. The handset will be available in four global variants with minimal differences between each version.

The variant for the Americas and Europe will come with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. On the other hand, Asia Pacific markets will get 4GB of RAM and twice as much storage at 64GB.

All four models will feature a 5.2-inch Full Hd display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor, and Adreno 508 GPU. The device measures 148.35 x 73.4 x 7.99 mm and weighs 163 grams. It will be available in Sterling Blue and Super Black. Just beneath the display lies the fingerprint sensor while the rumored 16MP front camera rests above the display. According to Motorola, the front-facing camera is designed for ultra low-light selfies with an option for adaptive low light. Further, it is capable of shooting 4k video at 30 frames per second and a full HD video at 60 frames per second.

The back of the phone has a special contoured glass design. The dual camera has a 12MP main shooter with dual autofocus paired with an 8MP ultra-wide sensor. In addition, it comes with dual-LED flash, a phase detection autofocus, and options to add depth of field effects. A non-removable battery with 3,000mAh will power the Moto X4.

It will also come with Motorola's TurboCharging feature, which provides hours of power with just minutes of charge. Similar to other Motorola devices, the new Moto X will have Moto Actions, Moto Voice, and Moto Display. For additional protection, the device will be IP68 dust and water resistant.

Possible partnership with Google

Earlier rumors about the Moto X4 said that it will be the first non-Google phone to join the lineup of affordable Fi-ready phones. Google's Project Fi is a network service that offers direct mobile data to users, similar to other carriers. At present, the Google carrier is only available in the United States. However, it provided an option for international reach by partnering with local carriers in several countries. In this way, Google is able to seamlessly provide Fi customers LTE without switching SIM cards.

With Google moving away from its Nexus devices with more focus on Pixel, it is possible that they may start releasing more high-end smartphones. In fact, its latest phone may be cheapest of its kind, but still quite expensive.

If the Moto X4 comes to Project Fi, it will definitely be a phone well worth considering. Depending on the accuracy of information based on all the leaks and renders, Motorola's next phone could be one of its best yet.
