Most people only choose from two options when it comes to buying a new smartphone, and it is either an iPhone or a Samsung Galaxy smartphone. However, there are several excellent smartphone alternatives such as OnePlus, Motorola, Google, Sony, and LG. The last flagship smartphone of LG was not exactly a success. The company is hoping to turn the tide with its next LG V30.

LG's new smartphone specs

The LG V30 will rival Apple’s iPhone 8 and Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8. The company recently unveiled the device, and it has a lot of differences compared to its predecessor.

The LG V30 is pleasingly gimmick-free. The smartphone features a high screen-to-body ratio, dual-camera system, and elegant design.

The LG V30 has a bezel-less design with slightly curved front and rear glass. The device has an 18:9 aspect ratio, which is almost the same size as the Samsung Galaxy S8. It has a 2880×1440 pixel resolution, perfect for viewing videos and playing games. LG’s new smartphone weighs 158 grams, and it has a 7.39-millimeter thickness, which is slightly thinner and lighter than the Galaxy S8 Plus.

Fingerprint scanner at the back

Unlike the Galaxy S8 Plus, the LG V30’s fingerprint scanner is positioned at the high-center part at the back of the device, similar to where it is found on the G6.

LG proved that it could go head-to-head with Apple and Samsung’s smartphone cameras. The LG V30 sports the trendy dual rear camera. The camera lenses are 16-megapixel and 13-megapixel. Photos that are taken with the main camera are going to be more colorful and vibrant because its sensors capture images at a higher resolution.

According to VentureBeat, this is the first LG smartphone to feature a rear camera with an f1.6 aperture lens. Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 has a dual camera feature, and both of its cameras have 12-megapixel lenses. It means that LG V30 already beat the Galaxy Note 8 when it comes to camera specs.

New unlock features

LG’s flagship smartphone is rated IP68 for water and dust resistance.

It also includes 64GB or 128GB of storage, and it has a microSD card slot expandable for up to 2TB. The device is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor paired with a 4GB of RAM, and it runs with Android 7.1.2 Nougat. The device is using a 3,300mAh non-removable battery cell. It is also the same battery capacity used on Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8.

The company also added new software tricks to unlock the V30. The knock-knock, fingerprint, and traditional PIN code options are included, but now it has a face-unlock and voice-unlock feature. Users can set the voice-unlock to respond to the “OK Google” phrase, or they can also customize their own unlock phrase.
