With Apple’s special September event inching closer, rumors and speculations about the soon-to-be launched products including the 10th anniversary special iPhone edition, possibly dubbed as iPhone 8, iPhone 7s, iPhone 7s Plus, Apple Watch series 3 and a 4K Apple TV have flooded the web. While the tech giant has not officially announced anything about the products that the company intends to unveil at the upcoming event, fans are already excited about the next generation iPhone and Apple watch.

Smartwatch to feature electronic LTE sim

According to a report coming from Forbes, the next-generation Apple Watch Series 3 will come with an embedded electronic LTE sim.

While fans were expecting the third generation Apple watch to support cellular voice calls, the feature isn’t likely to be included in the upcoming smartwatch. The watch will come with a small eSIM that will enable users to access internet on the device without the need of an iPhone, but not make voice calls. The eSIM will likely be LTE and not 3G.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has claimed that the Cupertino-based tech giant will offer the upcoming smartwatch in LTE and non-LTE versions in two size configurations- 38mm and 42mm. However, the chances of the smartwatch supporting VOIP calls from FaceTime and Skype cannot be ruled out completely.

The smartwatch will be manufactured by the Taiwan-based Quanta Computer.

Quanta Computer has also manufactured the first generation as well as the second generation Apple smartwatches. The company is expected to begin shipping of the upcoming Series 3 watch during the fourth quarter of the year.

Design, operating software, price and other specs

Regarding the Apple Watch series 3 design, the wearable device is expected to copy the same square display design as its predecessor, Apple Watch 2.

The smartwatch is expected to feature a micro-LED display instead of an OLED display.

As far as the operating software is concerned, the smartwatch is highly likely to come with Apple’s latest wearable operating system WatchOS 4 preinstalled. Rumors are that the next-gen smartwatch will support new tracking sensors to monitor blood sugar and heart attack signs.

The wearable gadget is expected to feature an upgraded processor for faster speed and performance as well as a front-facing camera for clicking selfies and making VOIP video calls. The smartwatch is expected to come with a price tag of around $400.
