Samsung’s 2016 released Gear S3 smartwatch was very well received by users. Now, people are very excited to know what the next generation Samsung Gear S4 smartwatch will offer in terms of specs and features. In fact, a lot of rumors about the highly anticipated wearable device have already started hitting the web.

Smartwatch likely to get wireless charging support

According to a report coming from Forbes' Paul Lamkin, a recently-published patent filing suggests that the upcoming smartwatch might get wireless charging support. According to the patent filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the next Samsung wearable should be able to be charged simply by resting it on top of a special case.

The patent in question describes a case which will be equipped with a wireless charging system along with a USB Type-C connector that will link it to the device. The charging will begin as soon as the device comes into contact with the conductive plate on the casing. It remains unclear if the device in the patent is indeed for the Samsung Gear S4.

It should be noted though, that quite often in patent case applications, it is possible that the ideas mentioned in the patent may never get applied in the real world and some even end up getting dumped. So, readers are advised to take the rumored information with a hefty grain of salt.

A sleeker Gear S4 can be expected

Among other specs and features, the next-gen smartwatch from the South Korean tech giant is expected to feature the Exynos 7 Dual 7270 chipset The Gear S4 is also rumored to feature a curved screen display similar to the current Samsung Galaxy smartphones and to run the Tizen operating system.

The tech giant’s digital voice assistant Bixby is also expected to replace S Voice on the upcoming Gear smartwatches and other wearable and smart devices.

As far as the release date is concerned, the Gear S4 is rumored to get launched in the second half of 2017. Notably, the Samsung Gear S3 was unveiled in August 2016. However it was made available for sale only in November.

If the smartphone maker follows the same release pattern as in the past, then it is highly likely that the Samsung Gear S4 will be announced at the IFA technology event which is scheduled to begin in Berlin in September this year. Apple is also expected to announce its next-generation Apple Watch Series 3 alongside the highly awaited iPhone 8 in September.
