Earlier in February, HMD Global unveiled the iconic and classic Nokia 3310 Feature Phone in a new avatar at the MWC. Upon its launch, the feature phone was not released in the United States. However, that status may change. It appears that HMD is prepping for the launch of a 3G iteration of the Nokia 3310 in the U.S. A Nokia handset was recently spotted on the Federal Communications Commission’s approval list, fueling rumors.

Feature phone gets green signal from FCC

The latest Nokia handset that the FCC cleared for a U.S. launch is believed to be the 3G variant of the iconic Nokia 3310.

This is because there is quite a bit of similarity between the approved device and the iconic 2017 Nokia feature phone. It was observed that the handset which received FCC clearance was the same size as the 3310, regarding length, breadth, and height. Moreover, the FCC approved handset carries the model number TA-1036, while the 2G regular 3310 feature phone comes with the model number TA-1030. Apart from that, the FCC certification also specifies the details of all supported 3G and 2G bands present in the United States.

3G variant to be released alongside Nokia 8?

Nokia has sent out its invites to the press to cover the unveiling of the next Nokia smartphone, dubbed Nokia 8. While the company has offered smartphones for every budget, the lineup lacked a premium flagship handset complete with all high-end specs.

It was rumored that Nokia 8 was the flagship smartphone from HMD Global, which is eagerly awaited.

The press invite states that the event will be taking place in London on August 16 at 7:30 p.m. local time. Speculations are rife that as the new handset - expected to be the 3G variant of the Nokia 3310 - has received approval, the feature phone may get launched alongside the Nokia 8.

However, if it does take place, then the company will be launching its most expensive and cheapest handset at the same date.

Nokia 3310: specs and features

The iconic feature phone was unveiled in February 2017 and made available for purchase from May. Sporting a 2.4 inches TFT display, the Nokia 3310 comes with 16 MB of internal storage.

However, users can expand the memory space to up to 32 GB with the help of a microSD card. The feature phone is available in four colors - matte dark blue, glossy warm red, glossy yellow, and matte gray. It remains to be seen if the device will catch the fancy of consumers in the US.
