The laptop market is about to get some serious competition. It seems like Microsoft and Qualcomm have decided to join hands to work on a new laptop series. This series is going to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon and will be based on Microsoft’s Windows 10 software. At the Computex 2017, Qualcomm announced that apart from Microsoft, ASUS, Lenovo, and HP will also be collaborating with them to launch laptops equipped with Snapdragon 835 Mobile PC.
The Snapdragon 835 Mobile PC platform
As reported by Gizbot, the first set of these laptops will feature a fan-less and slim look.
They will be easily portable as well. Moreover, the laptops will feature both, a 2-in-1 and the standard laptop look and feel. Even though the companies have made it official that laptops based on Snapdragon and Windows 10, are in the making, they still haven’t revealed the name of the models or their pricing and availability as yet. Several reports have suggested that the shipping of the devices may begin later this year. Qualcomm described their latest innovation as the kind that will help users stay “always connected.” They further went on to claim that they also plan on bringing the best smartphones to laptops and PCs. The Snapdragon 835 Mobile PC platform is similar to the smartphone version of Snapdragon 835 SoC in a lot of ways.
However, the only difference is that the former is slightly modified in order to make it compatible with laptop requirements of a user. The ARM-based Snapdragon 835 processor is used by most major smartphone manufacturers including Samsung (Galaxy S8, Note 8), Google (speculated-Google Pixel 2) and Nokia (speculated Nokia 9) among others.
The companies even further went on to claim that the laptops will come equipped with long-lasting batteries that will last for over a day.
Powered by Windows 10
The Windows 10 software experience on these laptops will be similar to the traditional PC experience. At the event, Qualcomm even gave the attendees a sneak-peek into what their motherboard is going to consist.
Experts believe that the performance outputted by Qualcomm will be similar to what Intel’s U series Core processors deliver. The motherboard will entirely focus on Snapdragon 835 SoC. There are rumors that suggest that the Windows 10 software is going to feature the company’s Cortana digital assistant as well. Speculations suggest that the laptops might fall in the $800 range. However, this has not been confirmed by the company as yet.
