Snapchat has been the forefront of location filters known as "Geofilters" from the beginning. Users have had the option to Design and submit them from a computer for a while now, but now you can make them on your phone inside the app. Snapchat announced this new feature on June 28, at 8:00am through their website, making the ability to create them on your phone a very easy and convenient way to produce filters for any occasion.
The Geofilters start at 5.99 USD and the price increases based on location, location size, and duration of the Filter.
How to access
Snapchat has made it very accessible to design and submit your filter. You need to open your Snapchat app and go to the settings. Once in settings, click "On-Demand Geo Filters". From there you can select what occasion you are wanting the filter to be for so it has the right options for what you want. Some of these include holidays, graduation, summer, weddings, birthdays, and more. After selecting your occasion, you can then swipe to find what you want. After you select a template, you can add text, bitmojis, or other stickers to your liking.
After designing
When you are content with your design, there are a few more steps to take before it can appear. You will need to name the Geofilter and distinguish what type it is.
Then, you will need to select a "Start Time" and "End Time" for your filter. After selecting the time range, you will set up a Geofence so Snapchat knows where the filter will be available. As you are moving the location, the price will rise and lower according to the amount of space the Geofence is covering. If you want a lower price but you don't want to alter the amount of space the filter is covering, you can lessen the time the filter is available.
Your Geofilter is now complete and all you have to do is submit it. Once your filter is approved, you will receive a confirmation email letting you know that your filter will be available to use at the time you chose.
More customizable filters
If you would prefer a more original filter without using one of the pre-made templates, you can still design one using the photoshop template on Snapchat's website.
After designing on Photoshop, you just submit the file on the website like usual and select the parameters for the filter as you would do on the phone.
For those who don't have Photoshop, the phone version of designing Geofilters is a great alternative to make quick and easy filters.
