AT&T has finally rolled out the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the HTC One M9 smartphone in the United States, after much delay. The carrier has been quite late when compared to other network operators such as Sprint and T-Mobile, which released the update a month back for the HTC smartphone. The unlocked versions of HTC One M9 received the Nougat update early this year. Following the adage better late than never, AT&T pushed out the update on Tuesday, May 16, to its variant of the smartphone. The U.S. carrier’s changelog for the update is not a long one.

Under the list of changes, there is only a single mention of the February Security Patch, which will be provided to the HTC One M9 users along with the update. Given that the April security patch is available for roll out, it is quite a disappointing factor that the Nougat update for handset comes with the older February security patch. AT&T also mentioned that the update will weigh 1399.01MB, so make sure that there is ample space available on the smartphone before starting the download process. The update has been pushed out over-the-air (OTA), so it may take a few days to reach all the HTC One M9 units. However, if the update does not show up within a few days one can download and install it manually as well.

Important aspects to remember

According to AT&T’s changelog, to install the latest Android Nougat software update the smartphone must be running software version 3.38.502.41. If the software version number does not match, the user will have to repeat the update process as many times required to match the above-mentioned software number.

After the installation of the latest Nougat update, the software version will change from 3.38.502.41 to 4.27.502.7. It is advisable that users back up data on to a PC, SD card, or cloud storage before commencing the update. The carrier also suggests that owners of HTC One M9 fully charge the smartphone and link it to a strong Wi-Fi connection to avoid hindrances during the installation process.

How to install the update

To download and install the Android 7.0 Nougat software update on the HTC One M9 smartphone, first go to the Settings menu and select the General option. From the General option search and select the About Phone option. In this menu click on Software updates and follow the on-screen prompts to download and install the update. Once the update has been successfully downloaded, the device will reboot automatically to install the new software. This process may take a few minutes to complete, so one should be patient.
