The Alcatel Idol 5 has received the approval of U.S. regulatory body Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and is a step closer to its release in the country. It is rumored that the mid-range smartphone may head to U.S. carrier Cricket Wireless. The FCC certification for Alcatel Idol 5 displayed the phone’s model number as “6060C.” It received certification under FCC ID, 2ACCJA021. The Alcatel Idol 5 may be made available to Cricket Wireless prepaid customers.

Two variants of the smartphone

For the unfamiliar, the impending smartphone may come in two different variants. Out of the two, one model – presumably the Alcatel Idol 5S – may house an octa-core MediaTeK MT6757CH processor, which clocks at 2.3 GHz.

This variant may also include the Mali-T880 GPU along and 2 GB of RAM.

On the other hand, the second model rumored to be the Idol 5 may come with an octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor, clocked at 2 GHz and 3 GB of RAM, as well as Adreno 506 GPU. While the Idol 5S may come with a slightly faster chipset, it will offer less RAM capacity. The Snapdragon 625 powered variant of the Alcatel smartphone is the one to have received the green signal from FCC. Therefore, Cricket Wireless will likely release this variant first.
