While fans are gearing up for the massive Star Wars Celebration event in Orlando this weekend, those who won't be able to attend have received a sweet treat. The first trailer for the upcoming "Star Wars Battlefront 2" game from EA, which was slated to debut during the event, has been leaked online. The trailer was supposed to be showcased during the event on April 15 but has made its way into the Internet via Vimeo.
Leaked trailer showcases new heroes and a single-player mode
"Star Wars Battlefront 2" doesn't have a release date attached to it just yet, but it is known to be the fourth major installment of the "Battlefront" series that first launched in 2004.
According to IGN, the leaked trailer for the upcoming game from EA DICE, Criterion Games, and Motive Studios opens with a Death Star exploding at the end of Return of the Jedi, following a scene in which a soldier reacts to the explosion, with the text "The untold soldier's story."
"I still remember my last orders," the female soldier says in the voice over. "The day the real war began."
"Avenge our emperor!" another voice commands. The trailer promises "multiplayer battles across all eras" and also encourages gamers to "pre-order to get "The Last Jedi" heroes. This most likely indicates that the pre-order will come with some freebies and other content.
The leaked trailer also features glimpses of other "Star Wars" characters such as Darth Maul, Yoda, Rey, and Kylo Ren.
More games following "Star Wars Battlefield 2" in 2018
Fans of the franchise would be glad to know that following the release of "Star Wars Battlefield 2" this year, EA is also working on another game that's set to arrive in 2018. EA committed to releasing at least one "Star Wars" game annually "over the next 3 to 4 years," beginning now.
For now, "Star Wars Battlefield 2" is set to be released in the third quarter of the year on PlayStation 4. Xbox One and PC players need not worry, as the studio is also working on versions for those platforms.
