Did you notice, Facebook has recently added the "Rocket Ship" button in your Facebook mobile application? If you are reading this article, I am pretty sure you must be curious by now to know about this feature, what purpose will it serve and why Facebook has added it.
What is 'Rocket Ship' button?
Just so you know, Facebook has lately introduced a 'rocket ship' button in its mobile application, nearby the News Feed button.
This button is intended to launch you into a second news feed of content, Facebook suggests you might appreciate. Content of this new feed will largely depend on the posts you’ve liked in past and engaged into – just from completely different sources.
According to a report by CNET, when discussing this new feature, a Facebook spokesperson stated, "We are testing a complementary feed of popular articles, videos, and photos, customized for each person based on content that might be interesting to them. We’ve heard from people that they want an easy way to explore new content they haven’t connected with yet."
Rocket ship will present you a new news feed with additional content that’s quite alike to what you prefer to see, only from the pages you haven't subscribed to.
Why a new feed?
When we already have a news feed, what leads Facebook to introduce another one? Since it's birth, Facebook has been continually growing, tweaking itself with new enhancements, developing into a better version with every passing day. Through new news feeds, Facebook will open up a door for more area-specific advertisements.
More advertisements, more revenue
However, it is quite uncertain how users will take to this enhancement until the feature takes off more comprehensively. Maybe, just like Moments, this second Facebook feed will go to the trash too. Or maybe not. In any case, a large portion of Facebook's users are excited to have the rocket ride — hoping the goal ends up being an option that is other than a spammy waste heap.
All we can do now is to wait and watch to see what will happen next and when Facebook will roll out this feature globally.
