The 10th-anniversary edition of Apple’s smartphone – the iPhone 8 or iPhone X – is one of the most rumored devices. The handset is expected to debut in the second half of 2017, but if a new rumor is to be believed, then the smartphone may miss the party. That’s right! Apple may only launch the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus in 2017.
The production for the iPhone 8 may begin from October or November per KGI Securities’ analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Problems related to the supply of components is being cited as the reason for the production delay. He also shared that the manufacture of the OLED screens would be shifted from August or September to October or November.
iPhone 8 to miss 2017 launch?
Rumors are rife that Foxconn has received orders for only two Apple smartphone models, the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus, instead of three. It is also rumored that the packaging material for both smartphones may begin arriving at Foxconn’s factories in June end. This suggests that the iPhone 8 will not launch along with the other two smartphones as previously rumored.
Supply woes for Apple
Apple is said to be experiencing supply issues with the iPhone 8’s OLED screen. This display will replace the LCD one sported on the current-gen Apple handsets. Samsung Display is one of the primary Apple suppliers for this display panel, and it is apparently unable to meet the demand.
Other Apple suppliers are also supposedly unable to fulfill the company’s requirements. Due to this, many analysts estimate that the release of the iPhone 8 will be pushed to November. However, the latest assertions suggest that the device could skip a 2017 debut altogether, which means that fans would have to wait another year for the premium handset.
iPhone X rumored specs and features
The iPhone X is expected to house an iris scanner like the Samsung Galaxy S8, as well as support wireless charging. The device is also anticipated to embed the Touch ID sensor in its display. However, the company is apparently encountering problems on this front as well. The handset may also be equipped with a dual-camera setup, and the fingerprint sensor may be located on the rear of the device.
The iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus are expected to be released in September 2017. Whether the two smartphones will also include exciting new features remains to be seen. iFans would be hoping that Apple can overcome the supply hurdle and release the 10th-anniversary edition smartphone this year as well.
