Rumor, speculation, and more

There have been a ton of rumors surrounding the production of the sequel to 2013's game of the year The Last of Us, the biggest of which is that Naughty Dog, which is the studio that developed the first game, will announce that they're working on The Last of Us 2 at June 15's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3).So far, there haven't been any hints that Naughty Dog will officially announce the production of The Last of Us 2, but we do know that they'll begin working on TLOU 2 after they complete Uncharted 4's single player DLC.

Naughty Dog hard at work

Neil Druckmann, who is the creative director of Naughty Dog, has said that he and the Naughty Dog team were working on some prototypes for The Last of Us 2 before they were asked to begin working on Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. He also said that they were planning on resurrecting those prototypes once they were finished working on the final installment of the Uncharted series.

"When Bruce (Straley) and I moved over to Uncharted 4, we were brainstorming ideas for The Last Of Us 2 with new characters," Druckmann told PlayStation Magazine. "We were also brainstorming ideas for TLOU 2 with Joel and Ellie; ideas for a sci-fi game; ideas for a fantasy game, and building prototypes for each one of those ideas.

And just as we were getting close to settling or narrowing that list down, we were asked to work on Uncharted 4."

It's hard to imagine that The Last of Us 2 won't feature Joel and Ellie in some way, as it would probably disappoint a good percentage of the original game's fans.

As many people know by now, there was a poster in Uncharted 4's epilogue that teased a Last of Us sequel.

The poster showed a pregnant woman, who many believe to be Ellie, and the words on the poster read "The Last of Us: American Daughters." So, many believe that the sequel will be built around a pregnant Ellie.

There's also some speculation that the pregnant woman in the poster is Ellie's mother, and that the next Last of Us game will be a prequel that tells the story of Ellie's mom.Another thing that's created some buzz surrounding the possibility of a sequel is the newest job opening at Naughty Dog, which is asking for someone who will be able to help create an "emotionally engaging" game, and many believe that they're talking about The Last of Us 2.

Even if Naughty Dog doesn't announce The Last of Us 2 at E3, they'll likely elaborate on what their newest job opening is all about. But, it's probably safe to assume that we'll know a bit more about the possibility of TLOU 2 at some point during the three-day Electronic Entertainment Expo.
