Just recently, New England Patriots' veteran quarterback, Tom Brady talked about his contract status, as he is entering into the final year of the two-year deal that he signed with the team. During an interview with reporters after minicamp, Brady said he’s not worried about his contract status and he will just focus on preparing for the upcoming season. If the Patriots fail to sign Brady to a contract extension before the 2019 season begins, it will be the first time that the 41-year-old quarterback will enter a regular season on a contract year.
Schefter doesn’t know anything about Brady’s extension
Brady believes that contract negotiations will work themselves out, but he refused to divulge if there’s ongoing talks between his camp and the Patriots regarding an extension. In an interview with Ordway, Merloni & Fauria, ESPN’s Adam Schefter, a reliable source when it comes to contract negotiations, admitted that both camps are silent when it comes to any talk about Brady’s contract extension. “He’s going into his last year, and let me say this, I don’t know anything. On Brady, there has not been a lot of conversation that I have heard," Schefter admitted.
According to Schefter, the silence is unusual since Brady has done extensions earlier in the offseason, based on his past deals. ”We’re now into June and he hasn’t done it yet, so the whole thing is interesting to me and I don’t know how it will get resolved,” added Schefter. However, there’s nothing to worry about in Schefter’s pronouncement as Brady and the Patriots have enough time to resolve their contract impasse. Brady’s contract extension is in focus after the Philadelphia Eagles' signed quarterback Carson Wentz to a four-year extension worth $128 million. As for Brady, he’s willing to give a hometown discount to enable the Patriots to get players who will help him succeed. Also, Brady claimed that he can afford to take pay cuts as his wife, supermodel Gisele Bundchen, earns more money than him.
Texans to go after Caserio for GM position
The Houston Texans made a surprising move on Friday when they dismissed general manager Brian Gaine after just one season. Now, the Texans are searching for Gaine’s replacement, and Patriots director of player personnel, Nick Caserio, is one of them. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, the Texans are expected to pursue Caserio and ask permission from the Patriots to interview him. This was not the first time that the Texans have tried to pry away a member of the Patriots' front office. Doug Kyed of NESN said the Texans requested to interview Monti Ossenfort, the Patriots’ college scouting director, but the team turned it down. The Patriots are expected to do the same for Caserio, who is instrumental in the Patriots success. The Patriots recently received their sixth Super Bowl ring in a lavish ceremony.
