Nebraska football fans are quite excited about how good the team could be in 2019. After a 4-8 2018, hope is the currency of the realm. There are plenty of fans that are hoping they will be able to bounce back and not only have a winning season, but one that shows they are about to really turn the corner.
It appears that Husker fans aren't the only ones that are looking forward to see what the Cornhuskers can do this coming season. Fan Duel has released a ton of spreads for this year and among those are a number of games for Nebraska. Among the most interesting is the fact that they are an early favorite against Iowa.
Nebraska football convincing national analysts
The Huskers are going to have to win some games before the national media really believes that Scott Frost has them back near the top of the football world. On the other hand, there is plenty of excitement surrounding the team heading into the fall. The team being a three-point favorite over an Iowa team that has to replace a couple of NFL draft picks is just the tip of the iceberg.
The fact that Nebraska is going to be a favorite, at least to Fan Duel, has to make some people in Lincoln, and the area that surrounds it, happy. The rivalry that some still refuse to call a rivalry has taken a rather nasty turn in the last few seasons.
That rivalry includes some shots fired over the fact that the Nebraska football team didn't get a single player drafted to the NFL this year.
Iowa fans seemed to take special pleasure in reminding Husker fans of that fact. It would be some delicious revenge for those same Cornhusker fans to be able to have bragging rights at the end of the year.
Other lines hint at Nebraska football resurgence
In total, there are now five games that already have a Fan Duel spread and for the most part, it appears to be good news for Husker fans who are hoping for a bowl trip.
In addition to being a three-point favorite over Iowa, they are also 2.5-point favorites over Wisconsin.
Considering the thorn in the side the Badgers have been since Nebraska entered the Big Ten, that should be good news indeed for those hoping for a Big Ten West championship. They are also 2.5-point favorites over Minnesota.
It appears that the big showdown in the conference will come against Purdue.
The Nebraska football team is a pick'em against the Boilermakers. Fan Duel has not released spreads for the other games on the schedule. The only contest where Big Red isn't favored at the moment is against Ohio State. Even being seven-point dogs at home has to feel as though the national prognosticators are seeing a team that is going to be much improved compared to previous seasons.
As always, it's important to point out that spreads are more about where people think the money is going to be played, but it's still a positive sign.
