The Nebraska football team is looking to add some more depth and some more talent at the tight end position by hosting former Scarlet Knight Travis Vokolek on Tuesday. That's according to Nate Clouse of Rivals.com. The tight end announced he would be transferring out of Rutgers towards the end of the school's spring practice session. It seems likely that he made the decision when the Scarlet Knights decided to bring in a Wisconsin grad transfer right around the same time.

Perhaps the most interesting tidbit about this development is that from the outside looking in, one of the positions on the Nebraska football roster that seems to have plenty of depth is tight end. That might illustrate the Husker coaches are not feeling as though that depth is materializing and showing itself to be Big Ten caliber as much as they are comfortable with.

Bringing in talent from all over

The Nebraska football staff, led by Scott Frost has made little secret of the fact that they are willing to bring in talent from all over. The staff has been recruiting the JUCO ranks harder than any coach, likely since Bill Callahan and maybe even Tom Osborne has done.

That approach has gotten them several talented players that are expected to fill holes on the roster immediately. Dedrick Mills is the latest to land in Lincoln via the JUCO route.

They've also managed to add some serious talent like Darrion Daniels through the grad transfer route. Now they will be looking to add the tight end from Rutgers. It's a safe bet that it's very good news that he's hitting Lincoln today. It was a couple of weeks ago the former Rutgers player told 247Sports that he wanted to be making his final decision "soon." That was shortly after Vokolek took a visit to Iowa.

The amount of time that has passed since he said he wanted to be done with this process seems to hint that he's going to be wrapping things up shortly after this week's visit.

It would not be a shocker if he pulled the trigger on the same day of his visit to Nebraska football should he like what he sees.

Building depth at a position of strength

The Nebraska football team is returning a couple of players who saw time on the field last year for the Cornhuskers. Jack Stoll compiled the most stats of a trio of tight ends that got in on game action. Stoll had 21 catches for 245 yards and three touchdowns in 2018. Austin Allen and Kurt Rafdal also had a handful of catches and were considered an important piece of the run blocking aspect.

For Rutgers, Travis Vokolek appeared in seven games, catching 16 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns. The former Scarlet Knight was slowed by a hamstring injury for most of last season but he was clearly effective when he was on the field.

The Nebraska football team will also be boosted by true freshman Chris Hickman who was one of the crowning jewels of the last recruiting class as he was among the top players in the state and was recruited by all the national powers around the country.
