The Nebraska football team might have some new stiff competition for Khi Mathieu. The New Orleans wide receiver recently talked to recruiting expert Sam Spiegelman last week, and it appears the prospect is looking hard at a top All-American Conference power. The Memphis Tigers are one of the teams that have gotten into the picture.

Mathieu might just be a 3-star wide receiver, but he's certainly not hurting for big-time offers. In addition to the Nebraska football team, he's also got offers from Power 5 schools like Colorado and Kentucky.

That's why it's a bit surprising that the receiver is looking hard at a school like Memphis. Of course, the flip side of that surprise is that the Tigers are close to home and have been boasting one heck of an explosive offense these days.

Memphis has also definitely managed to bill itself as one of the big powers of the conference. Khi Mathieu has been talking lately about the schools that he might be looking to visit in the very near future. Memphis looks to be one of those schools.

The Nebraska football team is one that is hoping to get a visit as well. At the moment, the receiver hasn't said if and when he is going to come to see what Lincoln has to offer.

Khi Mathieu still high on Nebraska football

It would seem that since the Huskers are one of the top schools on his list. The Cornhuskers have been trying to lure in as many prospects as possible for the Spring Game, but it doesn't appear Mathieu is going to be in that group.

The Huskers have made contact with the receiver before.

It's pretty clear the Nebraska football team is wanting to bring him in. They've had some success when it comes to getting New Orleans players into town.

Khi Mathieu might learn a thing or two from what happened when Stanley Morgan decided he wanted to spend his days in Lincoln. While he was a very good option no matter what coach he played for, it seems as though he finally reached his full potential playing under Scott Frost.

The Huskers have just recently found success getting commitments from other receivers in the 2020 class. Zavier Betts become the latest player to say he wanted to play for Nebraska. That could start a kind of avalanche of players who want to play wide receiver at the school.

If Memphis does continue to be the school the Cornhuskers have to square off against, it might mean they are actually in fairly good shape. The coaching staff certainly has an intimate knowledge of what makes the Tigers tick. That could mean the Nebraska football staff can offer up some things that would make it clear that's now where Khi Mathieu should end up. Now they just need to make sure they're on the official visit list.
