The Green Bay Packers suffered through one of the worst seasons in the last 20 years in 2018. Earl Thomas is one player that might be able to change that. The Pack is looking at a number of different ways they can have a better 2019 than they did in 2018.

The Lambeau residents are looking at the draft as one way to make sure they are getting better. One mock draft has the team getting two draft picks for the price of one, even if one of those is injured and won't be able to play next season. Green Bay could also be picking up one of the best receivers active in the NFL right now in Antonio Brown.

There is very little doubt the franchise had some serious problems on the defensive side of the ball. The draft could end up helping in some regard. If the latest NFL rumors are to be believed, the team could also be landing one of the best safeties in the game.

Green Bay Packers could up their defensive game

Earl Thomas played in just four games a year ago. Despite that, he is likely the best free-agent safety in the NFL. PFF has recently projected Thomas to be landing in Lambeau and that could be good news for the Packers if he manages to turn his career around.

Packerswire points out that it's not just about Thomas being talented. The defensive back is also someone who fits what is expected to be Green Bay's defensive approach next season.

Mike Pettine likes to play with a single high safety scheme. Earl Thomas just happens to excel at that particular set.

The Pack would seem to have a fit financially as well. The franchise is known to have quite a bit of flexibility when it comes to what they can spend and who they can spend it on. Thomas would fit the bill in that regard as well.

While he isn't going to be a bargain basement gets, he's also likely not going to be as expensive as other players. Thomas is one that can fill a hole in Green Bay, and the Packers are a team that can allow him to move on from a career in Seattle.

Earl Thomas beginning a new part of his life

2019 will be the first time the safety doesn't suit up with the Seattle Seahawks.

It appears his best years might be behind him but considering just how good those best years were, a slightly reduced Thomas is still plenty good. It's also possible that the fact he appeared in just four games a year ago could be good news for the Green Bay Packers or whoever else decides to sign him. Earl Thomas could be able to recharge and give at least one more season as being one of the best defensive players in the game.
