On Sunday afternoon, Nebraska football alumni Rex Burkhead was part of a thrilling overtime victory for the New England Patriots. His team was able to survive a back-and-forth matchup, against the Kansas City Chiefs, in the AFC Championship Game. Ultimately, it was Burkhead making Big Red fans proud as he delivered some of the biggest plays of the victory. In addition, he helped lucky bettors collect on a unique bet if they happened to take advantage of it.

Burkhead helps Pats get lead, win in OT

To say this was an exciting game, in the second half, would be an understatement, as there were moments when fans weren't quite sure which team would come up with the win.

The Kansas City Chiefs had a lead in the fourth quarter but still left about two minutes on the clock for Tom Brady to go to work. He did so, leading his team down the field in a drive. However, it was Rex Burkhead who delivered the rushing touchdown. That put New England back on top, for a short while.

Thanks to Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City managed to get into field goal position with under 40 seconds to play. Their kicker nailed the game-tying field goal which ultimately sent things to overtime for the AFC Championship Game.

In overtime, winning the coin flip proved to be the difference, but the Patriots still needed a touchdown to win this one.

They succeeded in getting down the field again thanks to key passes from Brady. Once they were within scoring territory, it was Burkhead who punched it in from two yards away. That gave New England the 37-31 win and a trip back to the Super Bowl.

Burkhead delivers on prop bet

Burkhead's overall numbers don't look impressive, on paper.

He finished with 12 carries for 41 yards and an average of 3.4 yards per play. However, it is his two touchdowns that have become the biggest of the New England Patriots' postseason thus far.

Those two touchdowns made good on a prop bet mentioned online. The bet was whether or not the Patriots' Rex Burkhead could score two touchdowns in the AFC Championship Game.

Odds were 24/1 and as seen, Rex Burkhead made good on it. It's unknown if anyone placed a wager on this particular prop bet, but the former Nebraska Huskers player may have made a few people a bit richer with that impressive performance.

Now the New England Patriots move on to Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta, Georgia. Interesting enough, Rex Burkhead may come face-to-face and chest-to-chest with another former Nebraska football player a few times. The Los Angeles Rams will represent the NFC and feature the defensive beast, Ndamukong Suh.

Super Bowl 53, with Rex Burkhead and the New England Patriots versus Suh's LA Rams, takes place on Sunday, February 3 in Atlanta, Georgia.
