The NFL power rankings for Week 8 have arrived, and boy do we have a log jammed middle of the pack! The 2018 campaign will officially hit the halfway point this week and so far the season has started like a horse race - two or three colts are running far and wide ahead of the pack, several are logged jammed in the middle, and a few already have no chance as they bring up the rear.

Still perfect

Another week, another win for the Los Angeles Rams. This week's victim was the hapless San Francisco 49ers. According to CBS Sports, Todd Gurley didn’t put up gaudy numbers.

However, he did hit paydirt three times to lead the Rams to a decisive 39-10 win of the 49ers Sunday afternoon.

Quarterback Jared Goff continued his season-long roll by throwing two touchdown passes in the win, bringing his season total to 12 on the season. Can the Rams run the table and finish the season 16-0? If they defeat the Green Bay Packers next weekend, the talk will begin, especially if you look at the remainder of their schedule.

The Rams still have tough road challenges against New Orleans and Detroit, and home games against Kansas City and Philadelphia. The other five contests, on paper at least, seem very winnable.

Lions, Chargers and Brees Oh My

While the Rams are rolling, let’s give some credit to the other teams that are starting to stir things up.

The Detroit Lions are quietly becoming a force in the NFC North. Detroit has won three of four, a streak that includes victories against New England, Green Bay, and Miami. Factor in they lost two tough road games - one against the 49ers by three and the other versus the Cowboys on a last-second field goal, and these Lions have been playing some great football since their Week 1 meltdown against the NY Jets.

Another team that is rolling right now are the LA Chargers. Sure the Patriots and Chiefs look great, that can’t be denied, but don’t count out the Bolts. At 5-2, they aren’t going away anytime soon. They have ideas about winning the AFC West no matter how many folks are on the Kansas City bandwagon!

Finally a shout out to the timeless Drew Brees.

The Saints are clicking on all cylinders, and Brees is the reason why. The 39-year-old threw his 500th career touchdown pass against the Ravens on Sunday helping the Saints to their fifth straight win.
