When it comes to the MLB trade rumors involving Baltimore Orioles star Manny Machado, the New York Yankees are a team that has continued to pop up. The team was linked during Spring Training during an incident involving slugger Aaron Judge possibly trying to pitch Machado on the Yankees. Now, it's being reported that New York has shown interest in the Orioles player, but fans are wondering if any movement will be made to make a deal.

Yankees have 'inquired' about Machado

A report on Monday (July 9) from the Baltimore Sun's Eduardo A. Encina said that the Yankees have "inquired with the Orioles about trading" for the All-Star player. However, Encina also notes that "discussions have not progressed." Basically, the Yankees have yet to make an offer to Baltimore. There was some previous speculation as to whether or not Baltimore would trade him to one of their AL East rivals, but the Orioles executive president previously hushed that talk. Dan Duquette said he would be open to it.

Still, the New York Yankees are in an interesting predicament.

While Manny Machado would be a great addition, the team could also use some pitching to help out their bullpen. Encina mentioned that the team has shown interest in relief pitchers Zach Britton and Brad Brach. They will become free agents in the offseason, as will Manny Machado.

New York is currently 59-30 in the American League East and trails the division-leading Boston Red Sox by 2 1/2 games. Most recently, the Yankees pummeled Machado and the Orioles 10-2. After the game, reporters tried to gauge Machado's level of interest in playing for the Yankees. He shook off that talk and told them, "Talk to me about something useful, not about rumors. I ain’t here to talk about rumors."

Two MLB teams standing out

A few days ago Ken Rosenthal tweeted about the two MLB teams that are standing out right now in terms of making a trade for Machado.

He mentioned the Los Angeles Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers, two teams that are in the playoff chase again this season. In addition, Rosenthal added the Cleveland Indians as a possible contender but suggested that they could have an issue in terms of taking on Machado's salary.

The fact that it is two National League teams that are leading in terms of the chase to trade for Machado may speak volumes. However, the good news for the New York Yankees is that Machado is set to become a free agent in the offseason. So even if the star player ends up with a team in the other league, New York can still offer him enough salary to bring him on board as a member of the Bronx Bombers next season. Could Arizona still want Machado as well?

With the Orioles sitting at the bottom of the AL East with a record of 25-66, the only bright spots for Machado are his upcoming MLB All-Star appearance, and him possibly joining a new team. The league is also currently holding a final vote for the last All-Star spot.
