Legends of the game

Teddy Sheringham - 146 goals

He scored goals with six clubs, most notably Manchester United, Tottenham, and West Ham. Sheringham’s 146th goal also earned him another milestone - the oldest player to score a goal in the Premier League. He was 40 years old when he scored his final Premier League goal against Portsmouth.

Les Ferdinand- 149 goals

Ferdinand hit top form early in his career, then fizzled out before retiring in 2006. He reached the 60-goal mark in his first three seasons at QPR, then joined Newcastle, where he scored 41 goals in two seasons.

Ferdinand failed to hit top form again after moving to Tottenham, managing just 33 goals in 5 1/2 seasons at White Hart Lane. As a result, he was loaned out to five different clubs before opting for retirement.

Michael Owen - 150 goals

The only English player to ever win the Ballon d'Or since the inception of the Premier League, Owen played 216 games for Liverpool and scored 118 goals, before moving to Real Madrid. He returned to England after a year and signed for Newcastle United. Even though his return to England was plagued with injuries, he also enjoyed short stints at Manchester United and Stoke City.

Jermain Defoe - 162 goals

He now remains the only player in the top 10 club who is still playing in the Premier League.

Defoe started his career at West Ham before moving to Tottenham. The striker has also turned out for Portsmouth and Sunderland. He is now with Bournemouth where he hopes to add to his tally in the 2018-19 season.

Robbie Fowler - 163 goals

Fowler started his career at Liverpool and scored 120 goals in 236 games over eight years. He thereafter joined Leeds, before financial difficulties forced them to sell him to Manchester City. His recurring injuries, however, affected his form. Rafa Benitez brought him back to Anfield in 2006, where he retired after a season.

The best five

Thierry Henry - 175 goals

Thierry Henry is also Arsenal’s all-time top-scorer. His 175 Premier League goals, including a hat-trick against Wigan in their final match at Highbury Stadium, were all for Arsenal.

The former French striker also holds the record for 20 goals in five back-to-back Premier League seasons. Henry was an integral part of Arsenal’s 2003-04 invincible season.

Frank Lampard - 177 goals

The highest-scoring midfielder in the Premier League, Frank Lampard is more remembered for his time at Chelsea, though, he started his career at West Ham. The Chelsea legend is the club’s all-time top-scorer. Ironically, his final Premier goal was against Chelsea, while on loan at Manchester City.

Andy Cole - 187 goals

Andy Cole scored 43 goals for Newcastle United after making his debut in 1993. He then moved to Manchester United, where he scored 93 goals in eight seasons. Cole also played for other Premier League clubs, namely Blackburn, Fulham, Manchester City, and Portsmouth.

Wayne Rooney - 208 goals

The new DC United striker scored double figures in 11 consecutive Premier League seasons between 2004 and 2015. 100 of his goals came at Old Trafford, the highest number of goals ever scored in a single ground in the Premier League. The Old Trafford legend is Manchester United’s all-time goal scorer.

Alan Shearer - 260 goals

Shearer scored 112 goals in 138 games for Blackburn. In the season Blackburn won the Premier League title, Shearer scored 34 goals - equalling Andy Cole’s record for a single season.
