The Washington Capitals Stanley Cup championship parade will take place Tuesday morning as the franchise prepares to celebrate their first Stanley Cup championship. The Caps only needed five games in the best-of-seven championship round to defeat the Las Vegas Golden Knights, securing the privilege to hold onto Lord Stanley’s Cup until at least next spring.
Massive crowd expected
According to the Washington Post, thousands of Capitals fans are expected to descend on the Mall on Tuesday to celebrate Washington’s first major championship team in 26 years with a parade honoring the Capitals’ Stanley Cup win.
The last team in D.C. to win a world championship was the NFL's Washington Redskins back in 1992.
With several outlets indicating that a crowd of over 100,000 is expected to attend, parade organizers are encouraging fans to show up as early as possible. Who knows? You may run into a government official or two!
While CNN indicates that the US government will remain open during Tuesday's victory parade, the White House is also encouraging federal agencies to allow its employees two hours to attend the parade. Odds are you won't run into President Trump, who is meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, but you may see some other popular D.C. political figures attempting to catch a glimpse of the hometown heroes.
How to watch live
If you are a fan of the Washington Capitals but can’t make it to the parade, don’t worry, you have plenty of different ways to watch the 2018 Capitals parade live.
According to a WTOP.com report, the parade for the Stanley Cup champions will begin at 11 AM ET. Locally on the television side, NBC Washington will air the parade in its entirety.
The parade will also air on the NHL Network. If you can't get to the television, you are still in luck. NHL.com and WTOP will both carry a live stream feed of the parade from start to finish.
