With the NFL Draft 2018 on the way, there are plenty of rumors involving who the teams at and near the top will select. The New York Giants are one such team, as they hold the valuable No. 2 pick. Once the Cleveland Browns have made their decision for the top overall selection, that leaves the Giants to take the player they want the most. However, a lot will depend on who goes first, according to recent NFL Draft 2018 rumors.
Saquon Barkley
The expectation at the Walter Football mock draft is that the New York Giants will go with a running back for the No.
2 pick. The top player available at that spot is Penn State standout Saquon Barkley, who would make a fine addition to the G-Men's roster, but is he the player they really need most?
The mock draft also suggests that New York may trade with the Cleveland Browns to move down to the No. 4 spot. If so, it could open the door for them to take a different player altogether. Most analysts believe that player will be one of the top quarterbacks available in this year's NFL Draft class.
Barkley brings an impressive resume to the NFL. He averaged 5.9 yards per carry in his 2017 college season and finished with 1,271 yards and 18 touchdowns. He also has a long list of strengths including his explosive speed, tough physical nature, and ability to add a lot of yards after contact.
Other NFL teams have taken notice of how newer running backs are coming into the league and leading the way for success. They've included Todd Gurley in Los Angeles and Leonard Fournette in Jacksonville.
Sam Darnold
While a report from SNY TV's Ralph Vacchiano suggests the Giants have a lot of love for Saquon Barkley, it's also said that they may not hesitate to call an audible.
If Sam Darnold is available at the No. 2 spot, New York may draft the USC quarterback.
The reasoning behind this is the fact that Eli Manning is up there in age (37) so his career will be coming to a close in several seasons. It's been mentioned how difficult it is to find a good successor at the quarterback spot, and with a talent like Darnold available, the Giants may be looked down upon for not making the move when they have the chance.
It's also suggested that the Giants don't have any interest in the other top quarterbacks that will be available in this draft. However, a source said with regards to UCLA's John Rosen, "not to rule him out" either.
The 2018 NFL Draft arrives on Thursday, April 26 from Texas with fans of the Browns, Giants, and plenty of other NFL teams ready to see what moves their respective teams make.
