Davide Astori has died at age 31. And now Acf Fiorentina fans are wondering what happened to their captain. While the team did not release many details about what happened to Astori, the Associated Press reports that he was found dead in his Udine hotel room. AP additionally states that his body was discovered when he did not show up for breakfast.
Sudden illness
ACF Fiorentina announced the news of Astori's death early Sunday morning (March 4).

According to the BBC News, the tweet translates to, "Fiorentina are profoundly shocked to have to announce the death of captain Davide Astori after a sudden illness.
Given this terrible and delicate situation we appeal to everyone's sensitivity at this time, above all out of respect for his family." ACF Fiorentina had a Serie A game scheduled against Udinese on Sunday. That match has now been postponed, as have all of Sunday's other Serie A contests.
An amazing career
Astori first signed with ACF Fiorentina on loan in 2015. The move became permanent the following year. He also played for AC Milan, Cagliari, and Roma. Per SB Nation, Astori just agreed to a new three-year contract with the club just days before his death. He also spent some time with the Italian National Team. He scored his only international goal during a FIFA Confederations Cup match against Uruguay in 2013.

Now, as fans try to come to grips with what happened to Davide Astori, tributes are pouring in from throughout the soccer community.
"Everybody at Chelsea Football Club is shocked and saddened at the sudden death of Fiorentina captain Davide Astori," Chelsea tweeted. "Our thoughts are with his family, friends and team-mates at this time."
AS Roma player Edin Dzeko added, "Incredibly sad news.
My thoughts are with the family, friends and all at @acffiorentina Rest in peace Davide."
Tim Cahill tweeted, "So sad to hear the news. Rest in Peace Davide Astori thoughts and prayers go out to family."
Hakan Çalhanoğlu also wrote on Twitter, "Shocked about the terrible news about Davide #Astori. Thoughts are with his family, his friends and of course players and staff of @acffiorentina #RIP."
And Nuri Şahin from Borussia Dortmund wrote "Terribly sad news to wake up to.
Rest in peace Davide Astori. My thoughts are with his family and friends. And deepest condolences to @acffiorentina."
