While the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles are preparing for Super Bowl 52, the other teams are now looking for ways to bolster their roster. The Denver Broncos are being linked to several NFL rumors, and they are expected to make moves in the offseason.
Denver had a disappointing season, finishing with a measly 5-11 record. They are now reportedly looking to move Aqib Talib and are expected to chase veteran quarterbacks in the coming months.
Aqib Talib linked to San Francisco 49ers
The Broncos have placed Talib on the trading block because of financial concerns, Mike Klis of KUSA revealed.
The veteran cornerback has just two years left on his six-year, $57 million contract, but trading him will help Denver get financial relief for possible trades or signing later in the offseason.
Talib is continuously being linked to the San Francisco 49ers, who are also expected to become very busy this offseason. The Niners will look to bolster their title chances by surrounding quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo with quality pieces in the offseason.
According to Predominantly Orange, trading for Talib makes sense for the 49ers. While the 31-year-old had just 31 tackles last season, his lowest in the past five seasons, the Ohio native could bring the much needed veteran presence to San Francisco’s relatively young roster.
In the hope of unloading a huge salary, the Broncos are not expected to have high demands in trade talks. Most analysts are convinced that a conditional third-round or fourth-round pick might be enough to make Denver pull the trigger on a deal for the 10-year veteran
Denver Broncos could make a run for Kirk Cousins
If the Broncos successfully shed $11 million in a deal for Talib, they are expected to make a strong run for a quarterback.
Denver could set the sign on a quarterback in the draft, but Klis said on Orange & Blue 760 the Broncos would prioritize acquiring a free agent first.
Cousins will be one of the most coveted quarterbacks in NFL free agency. Making a run for Cousins or another free-agent quarterback is ideal since acquiring a new signal caller will give Denver the option to select a position player in the 2018 NFL Draft.
Doing so will help them improve two positions instead of just focusing on selecting a young QB.
Aside from Cousins, the Broncos could also go after Case Keenum However; it remains to be seen whether or not the Minnesota Vikings will make a move to keep Keenum in Minneapolis. In case he becomes unavailable for Denver, there are also other options like Tyrod Taylor and Sam Bradford.
