Kevin Durant has undergone an interesting transformation since leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder for the Golden State Warriors. The once respectful basketball star has become quite outspoken lately, throwing insults at some players and organizations while becoming brasher and more outspoken about both himself and his teammates with the Warriors. For three years straight, the Warriors have met the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals, winning two of the Finals, and the teams look set to possibly meet again this season. With that said, Kevin Durant had some interesting comments about LeBron James before the two teams played on Christmas Day.

Kevin Durant on LeBron James

Kevin Durant led his Golden State Warriors against the Cleveland Cavaliers and LeBron James, two men who have battled more than once for the NBA title in the past. In their series against each other, they are 1-1, with LeBron's Miami Heat beating the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2012 and Durant's Warriors beating the Cavaliers last season. However, as far as Durant is concerned, his Warriors is superior to the Thunder of year's past and he is equal to LeBron.

In Game 3 of the 2016-17 NBA Finals, Kevin Durant made a huge three over the head of LeBron James to put the Warriors up in the game with 45.3 seconds left and the Warriors won that game and took the series in five games.

In an interview with GQ last month, Durant said that making that shot over LeBron was a sign he was passing the torch onto him.

LeBron James and Kevin Durant

LeBron James has been to the last seven NBA Finals, and a total of eight, four with the Miami Heat and four with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He has won three NBA titles, including beating Kevin Durant in one of them.

On the other hand, Durant has only been to the NBA Finals twice, although he is a heavy favorite to make it three this season.

While Kevin Durant said "I'm on the same level" as LeBron James and feels a torch was passed last season in that game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, that might not be enough to sway James. The two men are friends, Durant has always looked up to LeBron and The King has served as a mentor through the years.

Kevin Durant explained that the passing of the torch means that he can now consider himself on equal ground with LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade, Paul Pierce, Larry Bird and Dr. J. Durant basically said that making that shot last year makes him one of the best in NBA history.

“They have seen me play at the highest level and play against a guy who people say is continuously the best player ever,” Durant said. “I feel like I proved myself and belong in that conversation.”
