The Detroit Pistons defeated the defending NBA champion, Golden State Warriors, with 115-107 final score. The Warriors and most of the NBA fans neglected the Pistons because they thought they were just the same old team last season, but the Pistons proved everyone that they must be taken seriously this season. Avery Bradley led the Pistons to win with 23 points, three steals, two assists and a rebound.
Reggie Jackson added 22 points with three rebounds and five assists. Andre Drummond scored only eight points, but he got 18 rebounds, five assists, and five steals. The Pistons shot 46.2 percent from the field and 44 percent from the line. They had 14 turnovers and 37 rebounds.
The Warriors fell short
The Warriors got off to a hot start offensively, shooting 63% and outscoring the Pistons 35-27 in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Triad of Splash (Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, and Klay Thompson) helped achieve the 60 percent overall shooting for the first two quarters. The Warriors played well in terms of shooting but gave a lot of turnovers that made them lose against the Detroit Pistons.
The team shot 57.1 percent from the field and 37 percent from the three-point line. They had 26 turnovers and 40 rebounds.
Klay Thompson led the Warriors with 29 points, two rebounds, and two steals. Kevin Durant gave 28 points with six rebounds, four assists, and two blocks. Stephen Curry had 27 points, six rebounds, eight assists and a steal.
No suspension for Beal, Green and Oubre Jr. but fined by NBA
The three players who were involved in a fight during Friday’s game avoided suspension but were fined by the NBA league. The Washington Wizards guard, Bradley Beal, received $50,000 fine for “initiating the fight.” The Golden State Warriors forward, Draymond Green, was given $25,000 fine for “confronting Beal and failing to disengage.” Kelly Oubre Jr.
of the Wizards was fined $15,000 for “aggressively entering the altercation.”
The NBA announced that Carrick Felix and Markieff Morris of the Washington Wizards were suspended for one game for leaving the bench during the altercation. Morris is already out due to being in recovery from hernia surgery, so he will serve his suspension whenever he is eligible to play. Felix has yet to appear in a game and is not in the Wizards’ regular rotation.
Draymond Green is disappointed by the league's decision to fine him. He believed that he did nothing wrong as he was only trying to protect himself. The cbssports.com noted that the NBA is punishing players who did less than those who did more and that doesn't make sense.
