As the MLB season is winding down, the Boston Red Sox are still racking up the wins. Currently, on a road trip, the team went 2-1 against the Tampa Bay Rays before sweeping the Orioles in Baltimore. On Friday, the team began a new series with the National League's Cincinnati Reds. Here's a look at the latest Red Sox vs. Reds game recap with top performers, statistics, a standings update, and a look at what the next game is for these two MLB teams.
MLB game recap
The Cincinnati Reds jumped out to the early advantage in tonight's game. Boston went up 1-0 to start the game thanks to a sacrifice fly from Mitch Moreland to left field which scored Xander Bogaerts. The Reds responded with four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Those runs came courtesy of second baseman Scooter Gennett who smacked out his 27th Home Run of the season, a grand slam. At that point, it was a 4-1 lead for the home team.
It would remain that way until Boston answered with a four-run inning of their own. In the top of the fourth, the Red Sox received a double from Christian Vaquez to score Mookie Betts.
One batter later came a big home run from Rafael Devers. At the time, Vazquez and Moreland were on base. That gave the Boston Red Sox a 5-4 lead which they held onto for the remainder of the game.
David Price picked up the latest win for Boston's pitching staff. Price was in for 2.2 innings and threw four strikeouts. He now improves to 6-2 on the season. Craig Kimbrel earned his 34th save of the season while Sal Romano (5-7) took tonight's loss for Cincinnati.
Of note, in tonight's game, Devers' home run was his ninth of the season. Moreland picked up his 72nd RBI for the season while Gennett of the Reds recorded his 93rd. Gennett is tied for 13th in the National League with Colorado's Mark Reynolds for total RBIs this season.
