Tom Brady and his New England Patriots were able to bounce back in week 2 against the New Orleans Saints with an impressive 36-20 victory. The Pats shockingly lost their season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs 42-27. Brady appeared frustrated on the sideline during the game, and looked very eager to bounce back immediately. In the win over N.O., Tom went 30-39 for a total of 447 yards through the air and 3 touchdowns.
He did not throw any interceptions and dominated the Saints defense throughout the entire 60 minutes. The win for N.E. gave them their first win of the season and improved their record to 1-1.
Drew Brees had a pretty good game through the air by completing 27 of his 45 pass attempts for a total of 356 yards and 2 touchdowns. However, the Saints struggled once gain on the ground with both Mark Ingram and Adrian Peterson carrying the ball only eight times apiece for a total of 78 yards. The loss for the Saints puts them now at a 0-2 start, which makes them the only team in the NFC South division that has yet to win a game.
Next game for N.O. will be at home against Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers next Sunday. If they are going to have any chance at making a playoff run, they will have to play their best game of the season in next week's contest.
Brandin Cooks return to the SuperDome
Brandin Cooks was traded to the New England Patriots this past offseason after Cooks demanded the Saints pay him like one of the NFL's top receivers. He's known for his deep threat ability, but has yet to have a breakout performance with his new team. In his return to the Superdome, Cooks was only able to bring in 2 catches for 37 yards. He also carried the ball twice for a total of 6 yards. Although he did not have the big game he might have wanted, his team was still able to defeat his former squad in blowout fashion.
So, it still turned out to be a successful return to the N.O. for the fourth year wideout.
Big game for Rob Gronkowski
Rob Gronkowski bounced back in week 2 against N.O. after only bringin in 2 catches for 33 yards in the Pats season opening loss against KC last week. Against the Saints, Gronk caught 6 catches for a total of 116 yards and a touchdown. Tom Brady needed a reliable target this week and Gronk stepped up to the plate and delivered like he usually does when Brady so desperately needs him to. However, he did suffer a groin injury that prevented him from playing the entire game but told reporters that he is fine during his postgame press conference.
Next week, the Pats will be returning hom to take on the Houston Texans.
N.E. defeated Houston in the second round of last season's playoffs and will be looking to produce the same results in next week's game as well. Both teams will be looking for their 2nd win of the season.
