A former mixed martial arts competitor faces a Mandatory Minimum of 10 Years behind bars according to the Delaware Department of Justice. Gemiyale Adkins pled guilty to one count each of second-degree and fourth-degree rape for sexually assaulting a young child in the summer of 2016.

Sentencing still to come

The ruling was handed down yesterday according to the DOJ, and the 34-year-old New Castle, Delaware man will head back to court in November where he will be sentenced. Adkins will also be required to register as a Tier III sex offender.

Deputy Attorney General Jenna Milecki prosecuted the case with assistance from social worker Claudia Melton.

Adkins last competed in MMA in June 2015 where he was submitted in the first round by Hayward Charles. His professional record is listed as 11 wins with nine losses. Adkins competed under the nicknames "Jimmy" and "Baby Hercules."

He is not the first professional mixed martial artist to have trouble with the law and will not be the last, but the list of MMA competitors that have committed and found guilty of sexual violence is small. Adkins joins the list that includes Joe Son, Mike Whitehead, Jeremy Jackson, and Jon Koppenhaver, now legally known as War Machine.

In 2008, Son, a former UFC fighter, pled guilty to felony vandalism, which required him to submit a DNA sample. The sample wound up connecting Son to a horrific unsolved gang-rape from 1990.

Earlier this year, War Machine was sentenced to 36 years to life, for an attack on his ex-girlfriend and her boyfriend. He was found guilty of 29 of 34 charges which included sexual assault.

If Adkins is sentenced to the ten-year minimum, he will be 44 years of age when released from prison. The names of the victim have not been publicly released because the child is a minor.

Mediocre MMA career

Adkins began competing professionally in 2010, racking up six consecutive wins. His fight résumé includes losses to Dante Rivera, Julian Lane, Charlie Brenneman, and Kris McCray. He fought for regional promotions Cage Fury Fighting Championships, PA Cage Fight, Locked in the Cage, Shogun Fights, CES MMA, and others.

His highest profile fights were in Bellator MMA, both losses.

Adkins was signed to Binns Management in 2013, of the top MMA agencies on the east coast. Earlier this year Jimmy Binns Jr., owner of the management agency leaped to his death from a parking garage in Las Vegas, Nevada.
