With the WWE "SummerSlam 2017" rumors swirling ahead of the upcoming pay-per-view, there are a few superstars who have yet to have matches announced. One of those stars is none other than the current WWE United States Champion AJ Styles. "The Phenomenal" superstar has traded the U.S. Championship back and forth with Kevin Owens over the past few weeks -- including his surprising first-ever U.S. title win at a live WWE house show. After losing the title at "Battleground," AJ Styles captured the U.S. title back from Owens two days later on last week's "SmackDown Live" show.

So who will AJ Styles defend the title against at the "SummerSlam 2017" PPV?

AJ Styles' matchup

At the Ringside News website, a mock "SummerSlam" match card is shown. Among the matches displayed are the already-known championship bouts. Those include the Fatal 4-Way for the WWE Universal Championship involving Brock Lesnar, Samoa Joe, Roman Reigns, and Braun Strowman, as well as the WWE World Championship match. There's also the two women's title matches with Bayley vs. Alexa Bliss and Natalya vs. Naomi.

Also listed on the card is the United States Championship match. It seems it will be a one-on-one match featuring AJ Styles vs. Chris Jericho. The two faced-off in the past when Styles first came to the WWE a year ago.

They were actually a tag team at one point, but broke up and feuded from there. Now, it appears they'll have another program, for at least one match. They're two of the top stars in the ring, so it should make for an interesting bout.

What about Owens?

If that ends up being the match on the WWE "SummerSlam" lineup, then where does it leave Kevin Owens?

Well, there are rumors that he's going to get involved in a feud with the current "SmackDown Live" Commissioner Shane McMahon. The interesting aspect of that pairing is that Shane's last opponent was AJ Styles at "WrestleMania 33" just before Styles started fighting Owens for the WWE United States title.

One has to wonder if Owens will go after Shane for forcing him to defend the title on last week's "SmackDown" show against both AJ Styles and Chris Jericho.

In that Triple Threat match, Owens lost the title just days after he'd captured it at the 2017 "Battleground" PPV.

At the very least, it provides another new match that fans have yet to see, with "Shane-O-"Mac" taking on "The Prizefighter" inside and outside the ring. Will it be as entertaining as Shane's previous matches? Stay tuned.
