The offseason is starting to slow down and everyone, including the players themselves, are pretty excited about the start of the NBA season. Teams look to finalize their roster as training camp begins this October while players start their inhuman workout routines to get into shape. Here are new updates on the NBA free agency scene:
Doc Rivers front office job revoked
There have been numerous instances where head coaches of NBA teams are also given the Front Office job and one of those instances is when Doc Rivers left the Boston Celtics and joined the Clippers as their head coach and president of basketball operations.
Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN has reported that the Los Angeles Clippers have revoked the front office duties of Doc Rivers this offseason as we head into the regular season. Owner Steve Ballmer said that Rivers will still have a big voice in terms of team organization but he wants him to focus more on coaching, as he realized that coaching and running a team should be two distinct and separate job.
Lawrence Frank will now oversee basketball operations along with General Manager Dave Wohl and they will directly answer to Steve Ballmer himself. Ballmer, later on, thanked Rivers and Lawrence on the great job they did last season in overseeing the coaching and noncoaching aspects of the team. The Clippers have had a rough offseason so far with Chris Paul's departure, Danilo Gallinari's injury and Willie Reed's arrest but hopefully they can turn things around and be a big force in the NBA next season.
Cousins improve by losing weight
One of the most exciting NBA teams heading into next season is the newly revamped New Orleans Pelicans, with Rajon Rondo, Anthony Davis, and DeMarcus Cousins as their new core. With all the criticism they have received ever since the trade, Cousins especially wants to prove everyone wrong next season as he believes that they are bound to be a special team.
Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated has reported that Cousins has lost a lot of weight due to a strict diet and heavy workout schedules. Cousins said that this was one of the aspects of his game that he thought he could improve on this offseason.
Along with a losing weight, Cousins and Davis have been working out a lot together in Las Vegas just to get familiar with each other before NBA training camps begin this year.
Head coach Alvin Gentry applauded and praised the effort and determination of DeMarcus Cousins for the work he put in this offseason even before training camp begins despite no one telling him to lose weight. The Pelicans are surely a team to watch out for this upcoming NBA season.
