On Saturday Afternoon, the Carolina Panthers visited the Tennessee Titans in a Week 2 NFL preseason game. In the latest outing, the Titans were able to pick up their first victory in their second exhibition game. Quarterback Marcus Mariota and running back Derrick Henry were among the stars in today's 34-27 win. Here's the latest Panthers vs. Titans game recap with top performers, stats, and what's next for these two NFL teams.

NFL game recap

In today's game, the Tennessee Titans took control right from the start, jumping out to a 17-0 lead after one quarter.

A Ryan Succor field goal started things off, followed by a drive by Marcus Mariota to eventually throw a four-yard pass to Delanie Walker for the touchdown. Derrick Henry rushed in a 17-yard TD before the quarter ended. After Carolina rookie Christian McCaffrey scored on a 17-yard TD run in the second quarter, Henry would add his second touchdown of the game. The Titans' back ran in for the one-yard score in the second quarter, extending the lead to 24-10.

The Carolina Panthers would make things interesting in the third quarter. Cameron Artis-Payne ran for a one-yard touchdown early in the quarter. Towards the end of the third, it was Joe Webb finding Alex Armah for a 20-yard pass for the score.

That made it 27-24 Titans as the Panthers would try for the comeback.

In the fourth quarter, neither team would score until there was less than three minutes remaining. Carolina would tie up the game on a 37-yard field goal from Graham Gano, but several minutes later it was a three-yard TD run from David Fluellen that put the Titans ahead for good.

A 34-27 final score was the end result.

Marcus Mariota finished his brief appearance going 6-for-8 with 61 yards and the touchdown pass. Backups Matt Cassel and Alex Tanney threw for a combined 173 yards on 15-for-25 passing. Derrick Henry had 16 carries for 36 yards and two touchdowns in today's game.

Carolina got 70 yards and a touchdown on the ground from Artis-Payne, and 33 yards and a touchdown from their rookie Christian McCaffrey.

Cam Newton stayed out of the game again but may see action in one of the final two preseason contests.
