Floyd Mayweather strapped up his gloves and entered the ring for the 50th and final time of his career on Saturday night, to go up against the two-division UFC champion, the ‘Notorious’ Conor McGregor. It was the most anticipated combat sports event of the decade, and arguably the century. The face of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA) facing off against the face of boxing and arguably the greatest boxer of all time brought a lot of commotion and attention as expected, and the fight did not disappoint.
Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather went at it intensely for ten straight rounds on August 26th. Giving the fans around the world a spectacle to watch. It was a very exciting contest that went back and forth between the two fighters, but in the end the all-time great boxer, Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather achieved victory. NBA and Cleveland Cavaliers superstar, LeBron James had some words for the man known as ‘TBE’.
LeBron James sends out tweet in response to Floyd’s victory
After Floyd Mayweather defeated Conor McGregor by TKO in the 10th round of the super fight, basketball’s biggest superstar LeBron James took to his Twitter to congratulate the great boxer on his legendary career.
Congrats @FloydMayweather!!! 50-0 is unprecedented!!!! Was a treat and honor to witness history.
— LeBron James (@KingJames) August 27, 2017
As Mr.
James mentions, it has been a treat and an honor for him to witness history for 21 straight years of Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather’s boxing career. Since the King was just 11 years old, Floyd Mayweather has been destroying boxers in fights, and although many see LeBron’s 14-year career as a long one, it just shows how long ‘Money’ has been doing it for.
But during both their reasonably long careers, they have both achieved a lot of success. For LeBron, that success has been shown in his championships and MVP’s, along with his statistical records. For Floyd, his belts and victories over other high-quality opponents is a testament to his greatness.
Greatness recognizes greatness
Throughout this year, a lot of analysts and TV personalities have discussed the idea of both LeBron James and Floyd Mayweather being the greatest of all time at their respective sport. For Floyd and his team (The Money Team), they have him labeled as ‘TBE’ standing for ‘The Best Ever’ which shows their confidence in his greatness. And while King James is only 32, he is already being heavily compared to the great Michael Jordan, and many consider him the 1st or 2nd greatest of all time already. This appreciation comes due to the records LeBron keeps breaking every year, and the accomplishments he keeps piling up.
