Several hours after saying that the five-match ban on Christiano Ronaldo was excessive, Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal also stated that his team dominated Barcelona in the second leg of the Spanish Super Cup -- which ended in a win for his side. Although Madrid had a commanding win in both legs of the cup tie, he wasn’t in a rush to talk about the possibility of his side winning all the six available titles of the new season.
Despite some worrying signs stemming from earlier complaints made by Zinedine Zidane and a lot of Madrid supporters -- who planned to start protesting before the start of the match -- Real Madrid won by a score of 2-0 in the second leg and 5-1 on aggregate.
Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio scored one goal each for their team as they dominated Barcelona.
Carvajal believes that Barcelona were powerless against a rampant Real Madrid side
Carvajal felt that Barcelona’s game play was ineffective -- after watching Asensio score a stunning goal in the fourth minute and Benzema adding a second one in the thirty-ninth minute of the match. The win handed Madrid players another trophy in addition to the UEFA Super Cup win over Manchester United.
Carvajal told reporters that Madrid’s aim was to win the UEFA Super Cup along with the Spanish Super Cup. He appeared to be ecstatic when expressing his opinion -- that Barcelona was under the dominance of Real Madrid during the first 20 minutes of the game.
He expressed another opinion that Madrid were more clinical than Barcelona in many aspects of the game.
Carvajal encourages Madrid to continue with confidence after winning Barcelona
Carvajal also informed reporters that the Spanish Super Cup win over Barcelona has given the team more confidence to play their first set of Spanish league matches.
In addition, he said that Madrid will approach the season “week by week” -- until March when the team will estimate their chances of winning any major title at the end of the season. Furthermore, he acknowledged that Barcelona is a good team consisting of players who also had their own chances of winning the Super cup.
Meanwhile, Lucas Vazquez expects his teammates to push themselves into full gear -- so that they will be able to successfully defend their LaLiga crown.
Like Carvajal, he believes that Real Madrid have a brilliant group of players who played better in both legs of the cup tie. He concluded by saying that each Madrid player gives everything on the pitch any time they are called upon to play.
