The Baltimore Ravens recently spoke to Colin Kaepernick and it looked like the team might take a chance on bringing in the troubled quarterback thanks to an injury to the back of starting quarterback Joe Flacco. However, their team owner showed that he was not really excited about the possibility of bringing in Flacco and now it might not really even end up mattering to the Ravens.

While talking to ESPN, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said that the signs that Flacco will recover in time to return are “positive.”

Flacco’s injury

When the Baltimore Ravens started training camp this year, Joe Flacco was not ready to hit the field with his teammates. As a result, it was newly signed backup quarterback Ryan Mallett who took the first-team snaps. Flacco had back problems and the Baltimore team doctors indicated that Joe would need at least a week of rest to allow his back problems to ease up. According to reports, it Flacco rests now, the back problems should not bother him into the 2017 Nfl Season.

This is great news. Harbaugh said that there is no danger of Joe Flacco missing the regular season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 10. There is very little chance that the Baltimore Ravens risk Flacco in the preseason so that their quarterback will be as close to 100-percent when the games that matter actually start.

Baltimore backup possibilities

Of course, the Baltimore Ravens have to be hoping that Joe Flacco has no setbacks heading into the 2017 NFL season. The backup situation on the team is not promising. In a full-team drill on Friday, ESPN reports that the Baltimore quarterbacks totaled three interceptions, which is good for the Ravens’ defense but very discouraging when it comes to talented bodies who could step in if Joe Flacco’s back acts up again.

Ryan Mallett, a former backup for Tom Brady and the New England Patriots failed in his chance to become a No. 1 starter in the NFL when he lost his job with the Houston Texans. Bill O’Brien, his former offensive coordinator, and current Texans head coach cited maturity issues when demoting and eventually releasing Mallett. Dustin Vaughan, who is with his fourth team in three seasons, threw two interceptions in practice on Friday while Mallett threw one.

Despite kneeling during the National Anthem, it seems like Colin Kaepernick would be a better stopgap in case Joe Flacco is injured than anyone on the Baltimore Ravens roster.
