The Eagles' fan base was in a frenzy with their 3-0 start last season when it looked like Carson Wentz was the second coming of Tom Brady. That all came crumbling down with Philadelphia's 4-9 finish, and Wentz began to look like your run-of-the-mill rookie quarterback. With the addition of some offensive weapons this offseason, can the Eagles recapture the magic of their 3-0 start?
Quarterback
Carson Wentz threw for 769 yards and 5 touchdowns with 0 interceptions in his first three games, but he finished the year with only 11 more TD's as opposed to 14 INT's.
Wentz was surrounded by one of the league's worst receiving corps and the Eagles lost a key piece of their offensive line for 10 games in right tackle Lane Johnson. With 16 games of NFL experience under his belt and an improved supporting cast, Eagles fans can expect some improvement from Wentz in year two.
WR/TE
The Eagles brought in a true number one receiver for Wentz by signing Alshon Jeffery in free agency, but they traded away their second-leading receiver from last season in Jordan Matthews.
Philadelphia is hoping Jeffery can put together a full 16-game season after missing 11 games combined over the past two years. If he's healthy, him and Wentz could have a monster season.
Zach Ertz led the Eagles with 816 receiving yards and 4 TD's last season as he continues to be one of the league's most underrated players.
Torrey Smith disappeared for two years in San Francisco, but he could be due for a career renaissance in Philadelphia. Nelson Agholor is hoping for a breakout season, and the Jordan Matthews trade could signal that the Eagles' coaching staff has faith in him.
Running Back
The Eagles cut Ryan Mathews, due in part to his checkered injury history, after he led Philadelphia in rushing last season.
Philadelphia signed LeGarrette Blount in free agency, who is coming off of a career year with the Patriots last season. They also drafted the NCAA's all-time leading rusher in Donnel Pumphrey to give them another versatile weapon out of the backfield along with Darren Sproles.
Offensive Line
Pro Football Focus ranked the Eagles' offensive line as the league's top-ranked unit heading into 2017.
Left tackle Jason Peters is still playing at a high level, and the Eagles found out how valuable RT Lane Johnson was during his suspension last season.
Jason Kelce is a very solid center, and he's surrounded by two strong guards in Stefen Wisniewski, who will take over for Allen Barbre, and Brandon Brooks.
The Eagles focused on getting Carson Wentz some help this offseason, and now it's up to him to prove that they made the right choice in trading up to get him in last year's draft.
