Take a look at some of the most important results in the Wimbledon Championship women's draw after day one.

Mirjana Lucic-Baroni loses the impossible, Kvitova returns in style

Mirjana Lucic-Baroni is known for her aggressive and attacking style of play, but sometimes that could be a deadly weapon for herself, not just her opponents. The 26th seed lost the first set, but made a comeback in the second set, as she tied the score at one apiece.

Lucic-Baroni led 5-0 in the third set and had a Match Point, but that wasn't enough. She became nervous and Carina Witthoeft took advantage of it, as she won five games in a row. Mirjana won the next game without losing the point, but that was it. Witthoeft was suddenly back in the match and she had a huge psychological advantage. Witthoeft broke the serve of the Croatian player once again and took the final set 8-6. Witthoeft will play against the qualifier Aryna Sabalenka in the second round.

Petra Kvitova came to Wimbledon after winning a title in Birmingham and she was very impressive in her first match in London.

Kvitova defeated Johanna Larsson from Sweden after one hour and 26 minutes of play. Kvitova is one of the main favorites to win this tournament and her next opponent will be an American Madison Brengle, who passed Richel Hogenkamp in straight sets.

Dominika Cibulkova qualified for the second round after an exciting and dramatic match against Andrea Petkovic. Cibulkova won the match in the third set after 34 games and 23 breaks of serve! She had five match points on her serve before she finally took advantage of her sixth. The result was 9-7 in favor of Cibulkova in the final set. She'll play against an American Jennifer Brady, who defeated Danka Kovinic in straight sets.

Williams and Keys are both through the second round

Venus Williams had a rough time lately, after being involved in a car accident, that resulted in a death of an older man. But, she looked pretty good on the court on Monday, as she beat Elise Mertens 7-6 6-4 after one hour and 43 minutes of play. Venus needed five set points in the first set tie-break, but she finally won the set. She finished the job in the second set on her fifth match point. Williams will play against Qiang Wang in the second round.

Madison Keys didn't have many problems against Nao Hibino, as she won in straight sets after one hour and eight minutes of play. Keys lost her serve twice in the opening set, but she stepped up in the second set and easily close the match.

Victoria Azarenka beat Catherine Bellis in three sets, while Genie Bouchard lost to Carla Suarez Navarro after winning the first set 6-1.

Jelena Ostapenko, the French Open champion, and Ana Konjuh, a young Croatian talent, also won their first round matches.
