Petra Kvitova is back to the tennis courts after a long break, caused by the stabbing injury and she easily passed her opponent in the first round of the French Open. Meanwhile, Angelique Kerber continues to struggle, as she lost to Ekatarina Makarova in the first round. Kerber is the only No.1 seed female player in tennis history who failed to reach the second round of this competition.
Petra Kvitova started the tournament with big confidence
The 25 year-old American Julia Boserup didn't have much of a chance against Petra Kvitova in the opening day of the french open.
Kvitova opened the match strongly, as she led 3-0 after the first few minutes of play. She saved all of the three break points in the first set and won it 6-3. Petra was even more impressive in the second set. She didn't allow any break points in that set, while she took advantage of both of her two opportunities. The final result was 6-3 6-2 in favor of Kvitova.
Petra Kvitova will play against another American player in the second round Bethanie Mattek-Sands, who passed the first round after she defeated Evgeniya Rodina 7-5 6-2.
Kerber's disappointing year continues
Angelique Kerber is fighting with some serious issues at the moment, as she lost her last three matches with embarrassing results.
The No.1 female player in the world won only 11 games in the last three matches! Obviously, she is not at 100 percent, but we have never seen Kerber losing matches like this. Even with an injury. The Russian Ekatarina Makarova beat Kerber 6-2 6-2 to reach the second round and her next opponent is Lesia Tsurenko.

Monica Puig, a golden Olympic medalist, defeated Roberta Vinci 6-3 3-6 6-2, as she will face Jelena Ostapenko in the second round.
Madison Brengle defeated Julia Goerges after a „marathon“ that lasted almost three hours. The 27 year old American Brengle lost the first set 6-1 and didn't look like someone who can win this match.
But, she completely improved her game in the second set, as she won it 6-3. She failed to convert a two match points on the opponent's serve in the third set, but she finally did it in the 24th game of the deciding set and won it 13-11. Brengle's next opponent is Timea Bacsinszky.
Shelby Rogers defeated Marina Erakovic 7-6 6-4, while Christina McChale lost to Svetlana Kuznetsova 5-7 4-6.
A young and talented 15 year-old player Amanda Anisimova made her debut at the Grand Slam tournament and lost to Kurumi Nara 6-3 5-7 4-6.
